This Privacy Policy explains what information LabraJoy (https://labrajoy.com/, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit our website, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email us at contact@labrajoy.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form and emails: your name, email address and message, used only to reply to you.
- Comments: if you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, plus the comment itself, your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your comment and name may be shown publicly. Your email address is never published.
Information collected automatically
When you visit LabraJoy, our website, hosting provider and partners automatically collect some technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, time spent on pages, the site that referred you, and general location (city or region level). This is collected through server logs, cookies and similar technologies.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our partners use them for these purposes:
| Purpose | Who sets them | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | LabraJoy (WordPress, our hosting provider) | Keep the site working and secure, remember comment details |
| Analytics | Google Analytics | Help us understand which pages are read and how visitors use the site |
| Advertising (when ads run) | Google AdSense and other ad partners | Show ads, limit repeats, measure ad performance and, where allowed, personalize ads |
| Affiliate tracking | Retailers such as Amazon and Chewy | Record when a purchase follows a click on one of our links |
| Content tools | Mediavine (Journey) | Support site features such as content recommendations and email sign-up |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work properly if you do.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Run, secure and improve the website
- Understand which content is useful, so we can write more of it
- Reply to messages and moderate comments
- Show advertising, when we run it, to help keep LabraJoy free
- Earn affiliate commissions on purchases made through our links
- Comply with legal obligations
We don’t sell your name or email address, and we don’t use your information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Third-party services
These partners may collect information when you use our site. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Google Analytics (analytics). See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Google AdSense (advertising, when ads are shown). Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads at Google Ads Settings.
- Mediavine (Journey content and audience tools).
- Amazon Associates and Chewy (affiliate programs).
- SiteGround (website hosting, security and server logs).
Interest-based advertising choices
You can opt out of interest-based ads from many advertising companies through the Network Advertising Initiative and the Digital Advertising Alliance. On mobile devices, you can use your device’s ad settings or the DAA’s AppChoices app. Opting out doesn’t remove ads. It means the ads you see may be less relevant.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your information
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined under some US state laws, including California’s
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it (for visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland)
- Complain to your local data protection authority
To use any of these rights, email us at contact@labrajoy.com. We’ll respond within the time required by law and won’t treat you differently for using your rights. Many browsers also send a Global Privacy Control signal, which you can turn on to tell websites you want to opt out of targeted advertising.
For visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland: we process information based on our legitimate interests in running and improving the site, your consent where required (for example, for non-essential cookies), and to comply with legal obligations. Some of our partners are based in the United States, so your information may be transferred to and processed there.
How long we keep information
We keep contact messages for as long as needed to reply and follow up, and comments for as long as they’re published. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention settings. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect the site and your information, including HTTPS and our hosting provider’s security tools. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
LabraJoy is written for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Links to other websites
Our articles link to other websites. Their privacy practices are their own, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll post the new version here and change the “Last updated” date.
