LabraJoy is a blog for people who share their lives with Labradors, Lab mixes and other retrievers. We write practical guides on food, training, grooming, gear and everyday care, and we try to answer the questions owners actually ask, in plain English.
We started in late 2022 because we were tired of dog advice online that was vague, recycled or written by people who had clearly never been knocked over by a 75 lb Lab at the front door. We wanted one place where a Lab owner could get a straight answer and the reasoning behind it.

Meet Daniel Rowe, our lead writer
Daniel has lived with and trained retrievers for more than 18 years. He’s based in Oregon, where rainy trails, cold lakes and muddy paws are part of daily life.
His current dog is Buck, a 9-year-old yellow Lab from a working gun-dog line, who greets every visitor with a plush duck in his mouth and still retrieves dock bumpers in freezing weather. Before Buck there was Buster, a Golden Retriever who spent 12 years with Daniel and once let three stray cats into the house during a barbecue. Daniel has also fostered four retriever mixes over six years.
Daniel isn’t a veterinarian, and he’ll always tell you so. What he brings is long, hands-on experience with these dogs, and the habit of checking every health and nutrition claim against trusted veterinary sources before it goes on the page.
How we create our content
Every article goes through the same process:
- Research first. Facts about health, nutrition, breed traits and genetics come from sources like the American Kennel Club, VCA Animal Hospitals, the Merck Veterinary Manual, Cornell’s Riney Canine Health Center, OFA, AAHA and peer-reviewed studies. We link to them so you can check for yourself.
- Real experience where we have it. When we describe owning, training or testing something, it’s because we actually did. When we haven’t used a product ourselves, we say so and explain why it still made our list.
- Written for real owners. Short answers first, then the detail, with tables and checklists you can use on your phone.
- Health topics get extra care. We never give medication doses or diagnose. Any article about illness, symptoms or diet points you to your vet, and urgent warning signs are stated plainly.
- Kept up to date. We review and refresh older articles regularly, correct mistakes, remove outdated advice and update facts as new information comes out.
How we review products
When we recommend a product, we look at what matters for a Lab or retriever: size and fit for a big, strong dog, durability against heavy chewers, safety, ease of cleaning and value. We say who a product suits and who should skip it, and every recommendation comes with at least one honest downside.
How LabraJoy is funded
LabraJoy is free to read. To keep it that way, we earn money in two ways:
- Affiliate links. Some links go to retailers like Amazon and Chewy. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
- Display ads. We may show ads on some pages, served by advertising partners such as Google.
Neither affects what we recommend. Brands don’t pay us for positive reviews, and we don’t accept payment to change a verdict. You can read the details in our Disclaimer.
Corrections and feedback
We work hard to get things right, but we’re not perfect. If you spot an error, an outdated fact or a broken link, please tell us through our contact page. We read every message and fix confirmed mistakes promptly.
Important note
LabraJoy shares general information for dog owners. It isn’t a substitute for professional veterinary advice. Always talk to your vet about your own dog’s health, diet or behavior, and if your dog shows signs of an emergency, contact your vet or an emergency animal clinic right away.
